Just for a Moment....

Just for a moment, I think my kids might turn out okay. And just for this moment they made me smile and cry at the same time.

Two nights ago, I put Davis and Claire to bed. Claire started crying that she was afraid, she wanted someone to sleep with her, she wanted to sleep with us, she wasn't tired, etc.... I told her that she was safe, we were right down the hall, and that Davis was right above her in the top bunk so she didn't need to be afraid. I also told her Davis was very tired, and needed his sleep for school, so "Please stop crying and go to sleep." I left the room, and she started wailing. I went downstairs for about 3 minutes, and then I came back up to see if she needed more "gentle scolding." When I approached their door, I heard voices. I was about to go in and get upset that they were talking instead of going to sleep, when I heard this:

Davis: "Okay Claire, who else should be in this story?"
Claire: "How about Kaylee and Katie?"
Davis: "Okay, so Kaylee and Katie decide to take a nap together...." and he proceeds to tell a little story to her.
Davis: "Are you okay now, Claire?"
Claire: "Yes. But I'm still scared. Will you tell me another story?"
Davis: "All right. But I'm just going to rest for a second, and then I will."
Claire: "Okay. Thanks Davis."
Davis was asleep the next minute. Claire was asleep 5 minutes later. I sat there sniffling in the hall listening to this. I should take a page out of my 7-year old's book, shouldn't I?

So cute! What a stud Davis is, I actually remember a pretty similar situation with Ryan and myself, bunkbeds included, he even came and laid next to me. You must be doing things right!
